Weaver/Woven |
My childhood was spent on a croft in Wester Ross, Scotland, in an area of outstanding natural beauty. This environment fascinated and enchanted me from an early age and continues to inspire me today. Further inspiration comes from my love of folklore, magic and the natural world and the emotions evoked by my interaction with these elements are incorporated into much of my work.
Home ground, Wester Ross |
Currently I am developing my work with mending and darning, re-using and retrieving the old and discarded. I am very inspired by Boro darning and other Northern Japanese poverty textiles. I am also interested in the intertwining of textile with story: Text and Textile share the same root word 'Texare' which means 'to weave'.
I started a City and Guilds craft and design course in 2010 and thoroughly enjoyed expanding my horizons; this gave me a portfolio to apply for a place on the new degree course (the first year was 2012) in Fine Art/Textiles, which I finished in 2016.
